Most people I know are pretty obsessed with Netflix. I know I personally end every day watching one of my favourite shows in bed to switch off.

What if you could get paid to watch Netflix? Is it possible to turn binge-watching Netflix into a side hustle, and earn some extra money while you’re at it?

Well, you can! Strange as it may seem, there are actually several different ways to get paid to watch Netflix:

  • Netflix tagger jobs
  • Captioning
  • Netflix blogger, YouTuber or influencer
  • Get paid to write movie reviews
  • Get paid to watch shows with people online!
  • Complete easy money-making tasks while you watch
  • and more!

Is your dream job on this list? Let’s look at each of them in more detail:

Netflix tagger jobs

One of the absolute best ways to get paid to watch Netflix is to work for Netflix themselves as a content tagger!

Netflix taggers analyse Netflix content to apply tags and categorise the content by themes, genre, cast, and more. They also apply the warnings for adult content, violence, profanity, and so on.

This is an essential contribution to the Netflix experience because it helps all viewers make sure they are watching the right things!

Also, you know how Netflix gives you personal recommendations of shows they know you’ll love? That’s all thanks to the content taggers doing their thing.

The content tags link shows with similar themes and cast together so that Netflix knows just what you’ll want to watch next.

You can find tagger positions on the official Netflix jobs website. The role, and similar roles, can go by different names such as content analyst, insight analyst and metadata analyst.

This is a ‘real job’ that is usually a full time position and there are openings in different countries around the world.

So you can actually tell people that your job is to binge-watch Netflix, and you would be right!

Other Netflix jobs

Of course, as a multi-billion dollar corporation Netflix actually employ thousands of people, across all different roles – from software engineers, to designers, to data scientists, to admin assistants, and anything else you can think of.

They have a lot of remote roles and they hire all over the globe.

These people might not exactly be ‘paid to watch Netflix’.

But if you think that working for Netflix sounds like a dream job, check out their job board and see what you might be qualified for!

TV/Movie review blogger

Obsessed with watching Netflix? Why not start your own blog.

This could be a general entertainment blog, a movie review blog, a TV blog, or you could compare the most popular streaming services.

You can also follow a particular niche. For example, you could start a parenting blog with a category of the best kids shows on Netflix.

You can write reviews or synopses of various shows, you could talk about the actors and share any insider news and gossip about the creation of the show.

I’m sure you get the picture – there are endless topics to write about!

And how will this blog make you money, I hear you ask?

Well, there are several different ways that blogs make money! Here are the most common:

  • Displaying adverts (you get paid depending on your traffic – how many people see and click on the ads)
  • Affiliate marketing (this is when you share links to your favourite products and earn a commission when a reader buys something. You could share affiliate links for streaming services, merch related to your favourite shows, related tech such as laptops and speakers, and more!)
  • Sponsored posts (companies may pay you to write a review or feature their product)

It might seem unrealistic, but I make a full-time income from blogging so I know you can make a great success of things if you stay committed to putting out great content!

Here’s my tutorial on how to start a blog to learn more.

Netflix YouTuber

Another route to go down is starting a YouTube channel about your favourite TV shows and/or movies!

As with starting a blog, you can keep it general or you could niche down. You could simply share reviews of what you’ve seen, or talk about previews and upcoming new releases. You could also share gossip, knowledge and info about popular shows.

YouTube is actually overtaking blogging as the best way to make a lot of money online. It can be quicker to have your content take off, and it’s more popular in general as younger  audiences prefer to consume content by watching videos rather than reading.

Personally, I still love being a blogger because it is a better source of passive income.

Once you are established, even if you don’t put out content regularly any more, readers will still find your content via search engines (if you’ve mastered SEO, that is) and you can carry on making money in your sleep!

Whether you go for YouTube or a blog as your primary platform just depends on your preferences and skills.

Here are some ways that your YouTube channel can make money:

  • Google Adsense – this is the platform that YouTube uses to show ads before, after and during videos. Creators get a share of the income from these ads. This is the main way that YouTubers make money. To start making money from ads on YouTube, you need at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past year, or 10 million Shorts views within the past 90 days. There is a cool calculator in this post that shows how much money you could expect to earn from YouTube ads.
  • Sponsorships – companies may pay you to talk about them or feature their products on your YouTube channel.
  • Affiliate links – you can share affiliate links in the description below your video.
  • Merch – Many YouTubers create their own merch for their fans to buy

Netflix influencer

Yet another way to earn money by talking about your favourite Netflix movies and TV series!

If blogging or YouTube isn’t your thing, you can become an influencer in the entertainment/streaming/TV niche on whatever platform is your thing – TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, podcasts, whatever.

Different social media platforms have different ways to monetize.

For example, Facebook now has the Facebook Bonus program which rewards you based on your views and interactions. This is currently open by invitation only to content creators with a large enough following.

TikTok has the Creator Rewards Program which pays out if you have more than 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in 30 days.

Podcasters usually make money through sponsors.

Of course, you can actually combine many of these channels! But I would recommend just focusing on one to start with so you don’t spread yourself too thin.

Freelance review writer

If you don’t want to start your own blog but you still like the sound of getting paid to write movie reviews, look into freelance writing.

Entertainment and culture is a huge sector now. Think about it: pretty much every newspaper features movie and TV reviews. Let alone all the smaller publications, independent websites, blogs and specialist magazines.

If you are an excellent writer and also a knowledgable Netflix addict, you could look for freelance writing work specialising in reviews and media commentary.

Good places to start looking for freelance writing work include Upwork and Fiverr. You can also send writing samples directly to publications you’d like to write for.

Provide closed captioning services

If you love watching shows, but also have an extremely good ear and are a fast typist, you can earn extra cash by providing closed captioning services for video content.

Disclaimer: I could not find any openings for this role on the Netflix jobs website at the time of writing. I don’t know if Netflix even hire captioners directly, or if it is outsourced through an agency.

But I know that there are definitely people out there who are getting paid to write captions for Netflix and the many, many, many other producers of video content out there!

What’s more, there is a massive need for transcription work in all kinds of different industries.

So get some experience now, and when the dream Netflix captioning job comes up, you’re more likely to get your foot in the door!

There are many sites out there where you can make money as a transcriber or captioner with no experience. Here are just a few:

➡️ See this post for more:

However, keep in mind that these sites don’t pay amazingly, simply because they hire people with no experience.

Also, you are likely to be pretty slow in the beginning – and transcription work pays per audio minute, not per minute worked. (So the faster you are, the more you earn!)

Once you have got some experience in the field you can get a job with a specialist firm with stricter entry requirements and higher pay!

There’s also a free short course you can take to learn more about getting into transcription:

Watch Netflix as an online friend!

This is one of those online jobs that you would not believe exist, but it’s pretty cool!

I was searching on the micro-job site Fiverr for more inspiration on how you can make money with Netflix, and I came across some people who will watch movies or shows with you online for money.

Screenshot of a search result for "netflix" showing a listing from Vicki offering to be your Netflix partner, with a 5-star rating from 3 reviews, priced from £13. Ever wondered how to get paid to watch Netflix? Vicki has the answer!
This Fiverr seller is charging people to watch Netflix with them online, and yes, she has made sales!

I guess this service appeals to lonely people who don’t like to watch shows alone, and just want someone to discuss it with.

It’s the intersection of getting paid to be an online friend and getting paid to watch Netflix!

Granted, these listings did not seem to have many sales, and I don’t think you could do this as a full-time job. But it’s a fun and crazy side hustle idea that could bring in a little extra cash!

Sell custom movie analysis/reviews

I found something else interesting while searching ‘Netflix’ on Fiverr. People are charging money to watch a show or movie, and provide a detailed review, summary or analysis.

This seems to be a much bigger niche than charging people just to watch together. There are a lot of sellers offering this service and many seem to be successful.

Why would anyone pay for this service?

Well, reading the listings gave me a few clues:

  • personal interest – finding out whether something is worth watching or not, getting personal content notes and spoilers
  • they need to pretend they’ve watched something but they don’t have time – perhaps to impress friends or dates
  • to use in their script for their movie review YouTube channel or podcast (see above – Netflix content is a profitable niche!)
  • to guide them in preparing an essay for school or college (be careful if you’re offering this service though: using Fiverr to do your homework for you is against their rules)

Sell Netflix-themed services

Finally, while researching how people make money with Netflix on Fiverr, I found a third kind of gig:

Many sellers are offering ‘Netflix style’ services. For example, creating a ‘Netflix style movie poster’ or ‘Netflix style custom video intro’.

Screenshot from Fiverr showing various online service listings for creating Netflix-style graphics, including movie posters, animations, app TV visuals, and custom movie posters with prices ranging from £6 to £2,032. Discover how to get paid to watch Netflix while exploring these creative design solutions.
Some of the ‘Netflix inspired’ services on Fiverr

There are also lots of gigs themed around specific shows. For example, drawing people in the style of a Stranger Things character.

This is kind of an indirect way to make money with Netflix. You’re not actually getting paid to watch, after all.

But you need to be very familiar with Netflix content in order to offer these services.

So if you have a lot of binge watching under your belt, plus other marketable skills such as video editing or graphic design, put all those Netflix sessions to use and think about a niche way to offer your skills to other Netflix fans!

Take part in market research surveys about Netflix and other media

Most big companies hire market research firms to find out what their target audience really think about their products. Netflix is no exception!

Netflix and other companies in the entertainment industry sometimes commission focus groups or online surveys to get feedback on their services, or put out the feelers for new shows in development.

In the UK, one market research panel that specialises in TV shows is The Viewers.

I have lots of other recommended survey sites and focus groups you can sign up for, and if you keep an eye out you will see more opportunities in the TV/movie industry come up.

Get paid to do easy tasks while you watch Netflix

Lastly, I have some money-making opportunities that don’t technically pay you to watch Netflix… but you can get paid while you watch Netflix!

Yes, there are ways you can make money that are so simple, you can do them on your phone with one eye on Squid Game on TV and one hand in your bowl of snacks.

I’m talking about the tons of rewards sites out there that pay you to complete simple tasks such as online surveys, watching ads, playing games, or even browsing the internet. They don’t pay all that well, but it’s a little bit of extra money for almost no effort. Many of them pay out in free gift cards or in PayPal cash.

Here are some I recommend:

Swagbucks

The Swagbucks app is one of the most famous task sites out there. It has been around a long time and paid out literally hundreds of millions of dollars.

They have loads of different ways to earn. Check out the cashback offers for shopping online!

Viggle app – discontinued

Just a quick note here: when I was researching this article on how to get paid to watch Netflix, I found many articles mentioning the Viggle app. This is an app that apparently tracks what you are watching and shares that information with show developers.

However, according to my research, Viggle seems to have closed down in 2024. I just wanted to mention that here is case you were looking for more information and confused by the outdated info out there!
